Scrivere un articolo per il blog mi ha dato l’opportunità di mettere sulla carta questi pensieri che permettono anche a me stessa di (psico)analizzare la mia... professione! Giusto per presentarmi, io sono un’astronoma ‘atipica’, perché anziché fare ricerca di avanguardia, mi occupo di cose vecchie: sono infatti la The curator of the Museum of the Astronomical Observatory of Padua, in which they collected the tools used by our predecessors since the eighteenth century, or at least those miraculously survived to this day. Indeed, in our environment often this type of research are seen a bit 'wrong and tend to be considered unscientific, but a serious work in this field can not follow a strictly scientific approach: I make a hypothesis (eg that the work of a certain astronomer was the precursor of a certain discovery), to collect data that could confirm or reject the hypothesis (I read all the work of the astronomer said, I look in the archives the original documents, papers relating to his studies, his scientific correspondence, comparing his works with everything else published about the period, etc..) analyze the data and proceeds to the conclusions that can confirm or refute the initial hypothesis. It's a job I'm passionate about a lot, which I came almost by chance, when I chose the topic of my dissertation in the field of history, in fact, I never thought to continue in this direction. Like many others, thought that the natural outlet for my degree in astronomy were taught. But Luisa Pigatto, the my prof. Who, with his tenacity and his work has managed to recover the wreckage that were kept in the old tower, then used as storage, and restore dignity to these objects of historical instruments high value and thereby realize Observatory of Padova in one of the most beautiful museums in Italy astronomical, if not the world, gave me the tremendous opportunity to continue working with her and the museum, thereby allowing us to take one of the best professions in the world.
When I get home, however, begins the second part of my profession, as bella e altrettanto impegnativa e della quale sono altrettanto innamorata: quella di mamma! In questo senso la mia professione diventa molto ‘tipica’, comune non solo a tante altre mamme-astronome, ma anche a tante altre donne in ogni possibile ambito lavorativo. Forse la distanza dal posto di lavoro (abito a poco più di 30 km da Padova, che raggiungo in treno ogni mattina) mi rende appena un po’ più peculiare rispetto ad altre mamme, ma tutto sommato, nel mondo d’oggi, penso che questa sia diventata una caratteristica abbastanza diffusa. Con tutte queste donne credo di condividere soprattutto una particolare capacità organizzativa; la mia giornata tipica si dipana infatti più o meno in questo modo: ore 6:25 sveglia for parents, a quarter of an hour later to wake the girls, dressing, bathing, bed and breakfast to be redone to be completed strictly within the 7:30, time to brush your teeth and finish 'the last things' in the bathroom and then, at most one part at 7:45, my father loads a bicycle in the direction of kindergarten, I bring in the other car, follow the elementary school. Meanwhile some 'special prayer' to find a hole not too inconvenient to park the car and then be able to take the train at 8:11, with her husband (also a works in Padua!), in the meantime, be good sports and much more of the undersigned coach, reached the station by bike, in a sort of flywheel on the road! Then finally, sitting in the train (if the train is late, if it is not overcrowded, if it is not deleted at the last minute, though ... all incidents fairly typical when you have to do with the railway ...) you can relax! Arriving in Padova, you ride, this time both to work, to finally start the work day. Come back, of course, the same drawing in reverse, in a state a little 'less anxious to last unless the train is not delayed ads, in which case begin to crowding thoughts: "heaven, who now call to fetch the girls?? At the nursery for 10 minutes but take me to the elementary school in the spring road ... I feel in-law, aunt, mother's companion ...». Fortunately, in 99% of cases by Saints Grandparents who provide emergency, illness, unscheduled closures of schools (read: strike!), The summer holidays ...
short, is a bit 'a life on the edge of the wool, to match requirements, time and effort of four people (and that for the moment we are still only four ...), but it is an exciting life that, despite the inevitable ups and downs, smoothly and difficulties, however, offers wonderful rewards in questo fecondo doppio impegno professionale!
